Friends & Family

If you’re looking for things to do with friends and family in Wales, we’ve got plenty of inspiration. From festivals to foodie events, Wales plays host to a number of world-renowned events that are guaranteed memory-makers.

When it comes to kid-friendly fun, Wales has enough family activities to fill holidays from noon ‘til night. Take the kids to the Aberystwyth and Ceredigion County Show or Anglesey County Show. Enjoy the various attractions, animals, and workshops – the latter has designated family-oriented activities at Y Cowt, and even a dog show for four-legged friends.

If festivals and live music are your family’s thing, The Big Tribute Festival brings tribute acts together to provide top quality live performances at a family-friendly festival experience – there’s even a designated ‘little rocker’s zone’. The Good Life Experience is family- and dog-friendly, with music, food and drink, and workshops for participants of all ages and experiences.

Find designated family camping at Brecon Beacons-based Green Man Festival. Watch over 15,000 children and young people sing, dance, and perform at Urdd Eisteddfod, one of Europe’s largest youth touring festivals, and enjoy the range of family activities in Wales with children’s shows also on offer.

Head to any number of Welsh festivals with friends. Enjoy a stellar line-up at Machynlleth Comedy Festival, hear your favourite authors and thinkers speak at Hay Festival, or dance the night away at any (or all!) of In It Together Festival, Gottwood, Westival, or Big Love Festival.

Foodies of all ages will enjoy the Cardigan River and Food Festival, Brecon Beacons Food Festival, Swansea Street Food Festival, and Foodies Festival. Eat your fill at some of the best food and drink stalls as you take in live music and talks by chefs, cooks, and food writers.

Sports fans can get involved with the Newtown Outdoor Festival, where daytime events are free and activities like running, fishing, and scouting for all ages and experiences are promised. Meanwhile, the Mini Burn Series brings families together for sporting activities like kayaking and running. Older friendship groups can challenge each other to tougher sporting events, with everything from Race the Train in Tywyn to the annual Ironman Wales.
